Students Question: Kindly share with me your process and experience of learning English as a second language.

Individuals Answer: This has been quite hard for me. Since English is not my first language, I have encountered several difficulties when trying to listen to certain words and interact with other people. The good thing is that I have attended several classes in order to learn English and improve my communication abilities.

Students Question: Please share with me a scenario where you assist a fellow Chinese national when receiving medical services from a healthcare provider.

Individuals Answer: I have several Chinese friends who are currently living in this country. There are several scenarios whereby I have been forced to assist them when trying to get different services. For example, there is a time when I acted as the interpreter when one of my friends was getting medical services in a local clinic. Since the person was not conversant with English, I played a crucial role throughout the period until positive results were recorded.

Individuals Answer: Communication is usually difficult especially when using a different language such as English. However, I always embrace the use of kinesthetic communication whereby body language and signs play an important role (James & Gilliland, 2017). When combined with spoken words, it becomes possible to pass across the intended message to the person I am interacting with. This mode of communication has made it easier for me to associate with many people and get the required services from different outlets.

Students Question: Please share with me your cultural perception or understanding of gender and modesty.

Individuals Answer: As a person born in China, I understand that men ought to be superior and capable of providing the most appropriate guidelines. Gender roles are critical since women have to become good homemakers while their husbands should be protective and capable of providing for the family. Those in power should be respected and their requirements followed (Murcia & Lopez, 2016). Women are expected to remain obedient while men should always guide others in most of the professions, careers, and positions.

Students Question: Kindly explain to me the way the Chinese culture perceives the concept of nurse-client relationship.

Individuals Answer: In China, healthcare has become a critical process or sector for improving medical experiences. The current concept of nurse-client relationship remains diverse depending on the nature of services being sought. For instance, a traditional herbalist will give instructions that have to be followed by the patient. In modern settings, nurses define the relationship by providing instructions and guiding individuals throughout the healthcare delivery process. If the nurse is a male, then females will not question most of their actions or procedures. This means that a professional relationship should exist whereby patients follow the instructions their nurses provide.

Students Question: Please explain to me how your culture understands or accepts as the most appropriate way of handling the process of dying.

Individuals Answer: Dying is a process of life and all people have to go through it. When one dies, he or she will come back to life again through a process of reincarnation. This means that dying is critical and an important passage in life (Murcia & Lopez, 2016). Those who lose their loved ones will hold celebrations and rituals in accordance with the existing spiritual beliefs.

Students Question: Kindly explain to me how your cultural beliefs influence the choice of foods that you take.

Individuals Answer: My culture requires that human beings eat what is naturally available to them. The processes of gathering and food preparation have to be artistic. Such food materials should be nutritional in nature and capable of providing medicinal advantages.

Students Question: Please share with me how your typical food intake looks like on a normal day.

Individuals Answer: although my current food intake has changed significantly within the past two years, the Chinese always plant foods, minimum amounts of poultry or fish, and some red meat. Plant products tend to be nutritious and capable of boosting immunity. Legumes, grains, and different vegetables are usually common among the Chinese. Rice in an unprocessed state remains the staple food for many people of my culture.

Students Question: Describe to me any home remedies for a given disease that includes using certain foods for treatment as according to your culture.

Individuals Answer: Food therapy remains a common practice in my culture. Many people believe that some natural plants are capable of treating certain diseases, such as allergy and asthma. Some people believe that warm foods can increase body temperatures, thereby boosting immunity. Yin and yang are also essential when mixed with body fluids. Those who take such foods will lead longer lives.

Course Project Reflections

From this exercise, I have appreciated that different cultural groups have diverse views and opinions regarding the issue of health. A nurse practitioner (NP) who wants to succeed in his or her career should be aware of the values, beliefs, and traditions associated with different regions. This knowledge will guide such NPs and make it easier for them to develop powerful philosophies for providing culturally competent medical services (Diller, 2015). With the United States population become more diverse, a detailed understanding of how different groups communicate, pursue traditional healing techniques, nutritional requirements, and discuss death and dying processes can result in exemplary services. I have acquired additional ideas about the Chinese culture and how I can offer timely or personalized services to more patients. This knowledge has reshaped and guided me to engage in continuous learning. This practice will eventually make me a competent provider of high-quality and evidence-based medical services.
