I felt that this quote was very appealing to showing how he felt in the story with characterization and imagery, The sign on the wall seemed to quaver under a film of sliding warm water. Eckels felt his eyelids blink over his stare, and the sign burned in this momentary darkness. Like him demonstrating it and describing it to us as we are there with him. As the mood was intense and soothing.
