Introduction
Advanced Practice Nurses possess adequate competencies that make it easier for them to provide patient-centered and evidence-based healthcare (Ballard, 2015). The practitioners must have the required theoretical knowledge, skills, and academic qualifications. Successful candidates for the advanced nursing role should have a masters degree. My competencies as an advanced nurse practitioner (ANP) will guide me as a professional caregiver. I clearly understand the major roles and responsibilities that must be completed by advanced nurse practitioners. This discussion creates a scenario of the organization I expect to work in as an ANP.
Type of Organization
The targeted organization is a community hospital. The medical institution is sponsored by the government in order to provide evidence-based health support to the targeted community members. The leading medical hospital has competent nurse practitioners (NPs), caregivers, and physicians who collaborate to produce positive health outcomes (Iglehart, 2013). The hospital attracts new professionals who are talented and capable of supporting the diverse needs of the targeted clients. I strongly believe that the institution will support my goals as an NP and eventually make me a skilled caregiver.
Type and Number of Clients Served
The hospital has 76 beds. The inpatient department is divided into critical and normal nursing care. The institution also provides adequate medical care to outpatient patients. The facility can provide quality medical care to over 200 patients. The institution liaises with other hospitals in the region in order to deliver adequate medical support to more patients. Several types of patients are served by such medical institutions (Masters, 2015). These include patients who are in need of critical and outpatient care.
Professional for Advanced Practice Nursing Role
The targeted clinical setting has the potential to support my professional goals as an APN. To begin with, the institution has competent health practitioners who are qualified to offer evidence-based medical support. The regulations, work plans, and responsibilities outlined in the hospital support the expectations of every client and healthcare worker. Additionally, the APN role is characterized by a strong academic background (Ballard, 2015). Health practitioners can successfully diagnose, treat, and prevent various illnesses.
The expertise possessed by NPs makes it possible for them to act as policymakers, caregivers, and leaders in nursing. These dexterities explain why such NPs can successfully treat clients with serious medical conditions. The leadership in the community hospital focuses on the changing needs of the targeted clients and healthcare providers (Masters, 2015). The ANPs in the institution are guided, empowered, mentored, and encouraged to support their patients.
My New Nursing Role: Implementation
One of the outstanding aspects of the identified medical facility prioritizes the health needs of the patients. The set of regulations and leadership associated with the hospital empowers every caregiver in order to offer adequate medical services (Iglehart, 2013). This fact explains why it will be easier to implement my new role as an advanced nurse practitioner. The working environment will equip me with new concepts that can strengthen my nursing philosophy. My focus will be on patient wellness and satisfaction.
After joining the healthcare delivery team, I will liaise with different partners in order to provide evidence-based care to the allocated clients. The next step is to develop a powerful healthcare philosophy. By so doing, I will be able to form multidisciplinary teams whenever supporting the needs of different patients. It will be necessary to educate my followers and patients (Ballard, 2015). They will acquire new ideas and concepts that can support their health needs. I will diagnose a wide range of diseases and address the unique needs of my clients. The concept of lifelong learning will also be embraced in order to improve my skills as a caregiver.
Board of Nursing
Different states in the United States have powerful laws that govern the practice of medical practitioners. Such laws are monitored by boards of nursing. The boards outline various steps and initiatives that have the potential to support the diverse needs of the targeted patients. For instance, the Nurse Practice Act (NPA) presents clear guidelines that can improve the performance of caregivers while at the same time preventing unsafe practices (Nurse Practice Act, rules & regulations, 2016). NPs who want to realize their objectives must be aware of such guidelines.
I am planning to consider these regulations in order to reap the best from my practice as a caregiver. I will act ethically and safeguard the needs of my patients such as privacy. I will uphold the outlined ethical and moral aspects whenever providing medical support to my patients. Nurses should be pioneers of competent care (Masters, 2015). I will follow the regulations needed whenever diagnosing and treating various health conditions. Specific skills such as integrity, openness, and provision of quality care are outlined by the NPA. The continued use of these guidelines will eventually make me a skilled provider of evidence-based and safe care to my clients (Nurse Practice Act, rules & regulations, 2016). I am also planning to consult more provisions that can support my role in the community organization. By so doing, I will play a critical role in supporting the goals and objectives of the hospital.
