Types of Packaging
Packing plays a vital role in marketing, as its primary goal is to attract the consumers attention. However, it is the main purpose of primary packaging. Other types of packaging also exist and serve different purposes, such as additional protection during transportation.
Additionally, the packaging is used to make the transportation process more comfortable, and it allows storing more units. It could be said that it is an essentiality of the manufacturing and marketing processes, as it plays the role of protection and makes the transportation process faster and easier. The primary goal of this essay is to describe various types of secondary and tertiary packaging, as both of these kinds are essentialities during the transportation and distribution processes. Furthermore, the implications of the packaging types are discussed. Lastly, conclusions are introduced.
The primary objective of secondary packaging is to protect the product during transportation, as the secondary wrapping helps avoid external damaging influences (Ohio State University n.d.). This type of packaging can be presented in the form of the extra layers of wrap on the top of the original packaging, as its primary intention is to save the initial state of the primary packaging. Moreover, there is a particular type of secondary packaging, which combines several individual units in one package (Denison & Cawthray, 2010).
It could be said that each of the items has its packaging, but each item is located in the same box or bag. Lastly, it has to be mentioned that secondary packaging may vary in sizes and dimensions, as a vast variety of products shapes, sizes, and weights exist. The primary characteristic of the packaging is the fact that it can be easily removed without damaging the primary packaging. This fact allows us to save the primary packaging not destroyed. In this case, it is vital, as primary packaging delivers the final message to the consumers. It could be concluded that the secondary packaging is the essentiality, as it allows keeping the items organized and undamaged.
Tertiary packaging is used to group the products in larger amounts to reduce place while storing and transporting the items (Ohio State University n.d.). It could be said that tertiary packaging is used when it is a necessity for distribution purposes (Denison & Cawthray, 2010). The primary implication of tertiary packaging is to protect the product from the physical damage, as sometimes covering product with the secondary packaging is not enough. In this case, some products can be more fragile than others can.
Different materials can be used for packagings such as plastic, wooden pallets, and carton. It could be said that all of these materials are highly durable and do not get destroyed during the process of distribution and transportation.
It could be said that all types of packaging play a significant role in product delivery and marketing. Secondary packaging is essential, as it allows the grouping of products together. This fact helps save space and has all the necessary details in one package. Moreover, secondary packaging protects primary packaging from external influences and keep the initial packaging undamaged. Tertiary packaging is also an essential attribute of transportation and logistics, as it allows transporting high volumes of products by grouping them in large cartons.
