From my childhood, my parents have always wanted me to be a medical doctor so that I can serve the people at the time of their adverse situation. But, when I was introduced to chemistry at my high school, its topics like atoms, molecules, and the periodic table enchanted me and made me curious to know more about them. For the affection of chemistry, I convinced my parents to change my future objective to be a chemist from being a doctor. I decided to devote myself to research and research-oriented teaching at a university after completing my graduate studies. This can be explained by that it is another way to serve people, the country as well and the world. I was the topper in my school and always scored the highest marks in chemistry. If my classmates had any diffidence about any theme of chemistry, they used to talk with me and I introduced myself to enjoy more of this subject matter and got the confidence to continue my higher studies in chemistry. I have completed a B.Sc and M.S degree from the Department of Chemistry of Jahangirnagar University in Bangladesh where a major in chemistry provided me to take multiple courses like Organic chemistry, inorganic chemistry, Physical chemistry, Biochemistry, Polymer chemistry, introductory Biology, Industrial Chemistry, Advance Stereochemistry, Organometallic chemistry, Environmental chemistry, Analytical chemistry, Advanced Polymer chemistry. In my view, these theoretical courses are fundamentally needed for studying the Research chemist program. Comment by Md. Alamgir Hossain:

Moreover, I have gathered a vast knowledge to higher study about chemistry and chemistry-related topics. So, I want to obtain an M.Sc degree in a research chemist program because this is a wonderful field, and have valued job opportunities in my country, especially in all scientific research areas, public agencies, international research organizations, the textiles industry, and the pharmaceuticals industry. So, I want to get this Master’s degree to apply my all academic knowledge and practical experiences.

Furthermore, I have also participated in an in-plant training course for one month at Gonoshasthaya Pharmaceuticals Ltd. Besides, I have completed one year of research entitled Physico-chemical studies of the effect of different additives on the Cloud Point of Non-ionic Surfactant under the supervision of Professor Dr. Md. Anamul Hoque, a renowned researcher in our country. In my research, cloud point of Tween-80, Tween-80, and Triton X-100 mixed system in an aqueous medium, Tween-80, and Diols (1,2-ethanediol, 1,2-propanediol, 2,3-butanediol) mixed system in an aqueous medium, Tween-80, and Polyols (Glucose, Fructose, Sorbitols) mixed system in aqueous medium; Tween-80, Triton X-100 and Polymer (Polvinyl alcohol) mixed system in aqueous medium for different concentrations have been determined and their effects also have been investigated. A journal related to this work titled Impacts of different diols/polyols on the phase separation behavior as well as thermodynamic properties of Tween 80, was published in the Journal of Physical Organic Chemistry on 30th July 2019 ( Volume: 32).

Actually, after completing my M.S. in chemistry, I realized I needed some practical work experience in a research environment to gather first-hand knowledge of how the life of a research scientist is connected. Consequently, I joined as an Executive in the Analytical section of the Research and Development department of ACI HealthCare Ltd. This is a leading multinational medicine manufacturing company in Bangladesh. The job responsibility was to research and analysis of different molecules, PPI molecules, drugs, drug substances, drug products, excipients, binary compatibility studies, and perform analytical parts according to the customer’s health issues. In fact, it was a nice combination of chemists, Pharmacists, Bio-chemists, Engineers, marketing officers, and clients. Working with a research team creates a great opportunity for me to meet with multi-skilled researchers in my country. For almost four years, I have been introduced to various topics of chemistry as well as to various research instruments like NMR, Fourier Transform Infrared (FTIR), HPLC, ATR, UV-visible spectrophotometer, IR, GC, UPLC, Dissolution tester, Karl Fischer Titrator.

In addition, I have always been admired by my friends for my good teaching skills. Most often, my distinguishing performance in a class presentation resulted in excellent marks. I have participated in a professional training course on Microsoft Office and Chem Draw. I have attended many seminars given by guest teachers and Ph.D. holders. I was involved with some humanitarian organizations such as ‘BADHON’, a blood donating organization, and also a legal advisor of ‘JUSAN’ an on-campus organization for local pupils. I have also built a strong leadership skill that gives me a test of a diverse community. Comment by Md. Alamgir Hossain:

For instance, I would like to work in Computational chemistry in the branch of inorganic chemistry because its the most suitable destination for me to do research jointly as well and it will help me to work out many critical analytical occurrences with modernized instruments. Also, advancement of interexchange efficiency, best knowledge about language, conducting research in a scientific way, and apply optimum knowledge of chemistry in several fields professionally. I believe that this Research chemist program is similar to my research interest and research experiences in the Faculty of Science and Forestry at the University of Eastern Finland. Comment by Md. Alamgir Hossain:

Again, I am a self-motivated student who has numerous versatile qualities like discipline, basic capacity for knowledge, hardworking, exceptional research and outstanding leadership skills, capability to communicate with multiple people for collaborative research purposes, teaching profession, and how to maintain potentiality for the the the research. A consequence of this is that I would like to enroll in a Ph.D. after completing a Master of Science in Research Chemistry.

Again, I have taken technical training in Computational chemistry and Bioinformatics under Red Green Research Center (RGRC) Dhaka, Bangladesh, and the topic is Computer Aided Drug and Peptide Design Course. The main function of this training is to achieve basic skills in how to Design drug and protein molecules properly and understand the theory of Quantum and Molecular Mechanics and their applications.

What is more, I have confidence in myself and a great deal of passion for research work. I am strongly committed to my work and I will be perseverant to drive my research through hard activity, I strongly believe that my research experience, aspiration of knowledge, and academic background will be helpful for the successful completion of Master of Science in Research Chemistry from your department. It seems to me that I will be an asset to your department and I will be able to contribute to the ongoing research work at your university. Therefore, my humble request to the graduate admissions committee to consider me as a potential candidate for the Master of Science in Research chemist program starting autumn, 2020 at the University of Eastern Finland.
