Large companies often face several challenges in monitoring all of their assets and associated businesses. Similarly, there is a mismatch between resources and final products in the proposed case with Protea Hotel by Marriott Lusaka. This problem can be solved in many ways, but the most effective is collecting data (Sharma, 2019) for a quick response in fixing problems. However, data collection is far from an easy process as it might seem at first glance (The Office of Research Integrity, n.d.), and this is due to the complexity and accuracy of the process. A rational approach to collecting information is needed to quickly and efficiently solve the assigned tasks (Blog, 2019). Yet, the current methodology for collecting information suggests three main methods: interviews, questionnaires, and observation of respondents (Bhat, 2021b). All these factors make it possible to effectively solve the assigned tasks using a flexible and developed system.
The first method is called interviewing and involves asking employees and managers about the state of affairs. The survey will allow one to find out the preliminary information from different points of view and sources, all of which are biased. Based on the subjective view of many respondents, it is possible to form an array of data, which allows you to analyze the preliminary information for further research into the problem of efficiency (Bhat, 2021a). Thus, the interview method is a good starting point for collecting information about employees within the company and their views on what is happening.
Observation is more subjective in that it requires the researcher or observer to add their opinion to the data. However, it is performing well as the next step in data collection and exploration. The method consists of collecting data, in which the target audience is presented with a problem statement, and their answers are flagged with minimal intervention from the interviewer (Ainsworth, 2021). The method is helpful because it allows you to distribute the responsibility for monitoring employees among managers. The problem with the method is that for some people observing oneself causes discomfort, which, of course, is incorrect and can lead to gaps in the data obtained (Jovancic, 2021). However, in general, the observation method allows the collection of more objective data, and with a competent allocation of resources, it demonstrates its high efficiency.
The observation method is a logical continuation of the previously proposed methods and is part of an overall information-gathering strategy. The method itself assumes the involvement of different social groups within the company (Bhatnagar, 2017) and the services provided. Various analytical algorithms are launched based on the collected data, and reports are compiled (What Are the Methods of Data Collection, 2021). With a competent allocation of resources and delegation of work on organizing data collection, it is possible to obtain quite objective and necessary data for further solving the tasks.
When using these methods within the framework of a general strategy, it is possible to identify weaknesses in the activities and management of an enterprise and quickly solve them (Data Collection: Best Methods and Practical Examples, 2021). Data collection creates a common statistical and information base for use in business. Thus, being the general manager of Protea Hotel, one can identify, evaluate and solve problems using a fairly short and cost-effective method of collecting information. A general strategy is defined by interviewing employees and key personnel, observing their activities and general processes in the enterprise, and analyzing different people and services at Protea Hotel. To summarize, efficiency problems within the company can be resolved through rational and objective analysis based on data collection and further planned and immediate problem-solving. The occurrence of side problems with this approach, if not excluded, is minimized, which in total makes it possible to identify the problem and solve it without external damage.
