I realized that there was no limit to what I could do in 2016 during the election when Hillary Clinton was running for office; up until the election whenever I thought of the president my mind always thought about men, so I was very surprised and excited when I saw her running for office. I was a little upset when she didnt win but still hopeful about my future. I thought she was so brave and strong to run for president and I loved that during the campaign she encouraged women across the country including myself. Hillary inspired me to not put myself in a box because I am a woman and that it doesnt hurt to try to do something no matter what the outcome will be. I have learned in life that I am not limited because I am a woman and that I could do anything I put my mind to. I am uncertain about my future and a little scared, but the one thing that is for sure is that I want to go to college.
I want to go to college so that I can experience new things, meet new people and get a degree of some kind Im not sure what yet. I also want to go to college because of my mama; I want to make her proud and do something to help her with money. Ever since Ive been in high school and she saw that I was doing well and was displaying interest in going to college she would say she would go around telling everyone how proud she is of me and tell everyone where I got accepted into college.
When I was in middle school, I wasnt interested in college, but I think it was because of the adolescent angst I had. Im not really sure what changed my mind because its pretty hard to deter me from doing almost anything but here I am applying for colleges or hope to be. I want to go to a college thats far away from my home city I dont even want to be in the surrounding states I feel like Ive seen enough of what the south has to offer and want to be in a whole new environment; I remember talking to my mother and going to a college I named Stanford, Albion and brown as my top choices and she said youre always trying to get away from me I told her if I apply to these colleges and they accept and pay for me then Im going to go no fussing or fighting about it. What I am most excited about and kind of scared about is being on my own like without my mama.
Every year since Ive been in high school I would decide on something else I wanted to be first it was a lawyer then an actress then I started to think everything was in my sights and even thought about becoming the president; my mind ran wild with the possibilities of where I could go I dont really know what Im doing and I am really clueless about the future, but Im also optimistic when it comes to whats in store for me. Michelle Obama is one of the women who has filled me with hope and encouraged me to keep moving forward in life; one of my favorite quotes by her is There is no limit to what we as women can accomplish. This really got me thinking about what I could be in life even if I am not completely sure yet I know that in whatever I decide to be I will have the mindset to achieve it.
I think that when I go to college I will truly see how well I can bloom in a whole new environment I know that there will be obstacles throughout my journey probably things Ive never encountered before as a high schooler, but I am prepared for whats to come for me.
