An article critique occurs when the reader critically analyzes the author’s research, case study, and/ or experiment. This involves evaluating the strengths and limitations of the article. For example: The author’s language use in the article is not culturally appropriate to Indigenous Peoples despite the article being published in 2015; the author places Metis Peoples under the First Nations label. We know since Canada enacted the Constitution Act of 1982, Metis received their own status; thus, it makes me question the effectiveness of the author’s research when expressing mental health interventions for First Nations, Inuit, and Metis. How should I begin? To begin, it is suggested that you read the article more than once. The first time allows the reader to understand the author’s purpose, methodology, analysis, and discussion. The second/ third time reading allows the opportunity to dissect the article and analyze the gaps, strengths, and limitations of the article. Some questions to ask while reading: – What is the language use of the author? – What is their bias? – What is missing in their research? – Are their findings generalizability to other settings? – Is the evidence well researched? – Is their methodology valid or reliable? Components to include in an Article Critique: 1) Summary of the author’s article including their purpose, target audience, their methodology, and their main arguments 2) Your position on the paper a. Ex: What is your main argument? Is the article effective? Yes or no? b. Your arguments; if yes, why? If no, why? (this is where you outline your main points that will be further explained in the critique) 3) Critique: includes an analysis of the strengths and limitations of the article (using your main arguments (3)- to expand by using examples from course readings or (peer-reviewed) ( The materials are attach below) 4) Conclusion: Summary of your key points from your analysis and future directions (how can the author’s research move forward?) What article do I analyze? I have located these articles in the ‘Article to Analyze’ attach bellow. Name of the article :International Journal of Circumpolar Health Format: This is essay format. This is a 4-5- page assignment References Please use APA Citations 7th Edition: Minimum of 2 peer-reviewed sources (two sources can be articles used throughout the course) with a minimum total of 5 references (3 sources can be videos, media clippings etc) Attached bellow you will find: Course material Article to analyze Article Critique Grading Scale https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EswpRvO1qpU&t=266s https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lbd5ENNp-PY&t=320s Thank you
