A Second Chance is a short film produced by Manny Jimenez in 2018. The films plot highlights the life of a young teenage boy called P-nut from juvenile detention who is forced to live in a violent world. Teenage boys living in violent neighborhoods face critical challenges growing up, which affects their mental health. To my mind, sharing personal problems and issues with friends is a practical strategy teenagers use to relieve stress and anxiety. The films director analyzes a social and healthcare concern of mental health among teenagers and young adults. Even though parents and environment can be tough, one can always find support in friends.

Primarily, family is the primary social circle that shapes a childs worldview. I think when family is not supportive, children tend to engage in wrongdoings. For example, in the film P-nut undergoes poor parenthood in the care of his stepfather, who constantly shouts at him (A Second Chance). I also believe criminal gangs, which were a part of the environment in the movie, are also a source of insecurity among teenagers. Living in violent neighborhoods, such as those inhabited by Hispanics, encourages youths to join criminal gangs to provide security.

In my opinion, the film portrays how people poorly treat each other due to the power they have. For instance, P-nuts father neglecting him, or rich neighbors kill the poor one out of supremacy. The film is critical because it analyzes the challenges that Hispanic teenagers face (A Second Chance). Marginalized communities live in areas with inadequate security, encouraging acts of crime. Criminal gangs have influenced the deaths of many innocent youths murdered during gang attacks. The film director was critical in highlighting the plight of Hispanic teenagers living in violent neighborhoods surrounded by criminal gangs. Hence, such life causes many people suffer and leave the community since they have been not supported by either parents or surroundings.
