It is important to point out that obesity is a complex and intricate disease that is associated with a host of different metabolic illnesses. Obesity is a high accumulation of adipose tissue or fat within a persons body. The given health problem can be categorized as an epidemic of massive proportions affecting populations all across the globe. Obesity is caused by physical inactivity, energy imbalance, and genetics.

Firstly, obesity is a loss of balance between an individuals energy expenditure and intake, where adipose tissue is enlarged due to the accumulation of fat as energy storage. Therefore, the consumption of too many calories above the levels being burned prompts the body to store the excess energy as triglycerides in adipocytes.

Secondly, a poor diet can make a person prone to consume calories from foods with no nutritional value, such as processed food. Excessive consumption of sugars and processed foods deliver calories into the body quickly, causing blood sugar spikes, short lasting sense of satiety, and lipogenesis. Its effects include the risk of death, cardiovascular illnesses, cancers, type 2 diabetes, stroke, lethargy, sleep apnea, and many other health malfunctions.

Thirdly, being physically inactive reduces energy expenditure, and the latter leads to an increase in the amount of energy turning into fat. Exercise is an energy-expensive activity on its own, but it additionally builds muscle, which is a passive energy consumer even when not working.

In conclusion, poor diet, genetics, and physical inactivity cause obesity, but its effects include a range of metabolic diseases. The necessary steps to combat and reduce obesity include physical activity and a healthy diet. Mental health issues might require treatments as well if a person struggles with food addiction. The loss of body fat for an obese person dramatically improves his or her well-being and health.
